Agriculture is a very important economic sector of our MRC. There are a total of 80,248 hectacres of land dedicated to farming. All this space is partitioned among 591 producers of various agricultural domains. The majority of which, that is to say 44.7%, are dairy producers, following that are beef producers at 23.2%, pork producers at 9.3% and finally horticultural producers at 6.6%. The 96 remaining producers specialize in chickens, horses, poneys, deer, rabits, foxes and bee colonies. Aside from being a large part of the MRC’s physical landscape, agriculture also represents a significant portion of our economy. According to records dated back to the 22nd of March 2002, the farmers’ declared revenue totaled $130,821,153. Suffice it to say the lion’s share of the revenue went to dairy producers, taking 44.7%. Following the dairy producers are the pork and beef producers taking 25.1% and 4.9% respectively.
