The housing troubles affecting the major urban centres of Québec are also having an effect on the Coaticook region. The region’s dynamic economy and its quality of life continue to exert pressure on the number of available lodgings, perhaps attracting more people than there are available living spaces. This housing problem can have negative repercussions on the region’s economic vitality. Despite the constant demand for housing, very few new units have been introduced to the market within the last few years. The following study aims to analyze the exact state of affairs and propose possible solutions that would benefit both the municipality and private promoters.
The focal point and main philosophy of this housing study was identified by representatives from local contributors including: development ogranizations, health and social services, industrial and commercial sectors, municipalities and as well as community organizations. It was the mutual cooperation between the organizations that has enabled them to identify this major problem with housing and residential development. This housing shortage is also the foundation of other problems found within the MRC. |
